Girl with AppleGiving to Make A Difference

The Rockland Community Foundation is the broadest and most flexible nonprofit organization for giving to causes in Rockland County.

Whether it is a specific cause in which you have great passion and desire to help or you want to make a difference and give something back to the community with the added value of a tax advantage, the Rockland Community Foundation makes it easy for you to give.

We are the trusted source for giving in the county. The Rockland County Foundation specializes in helping donors develop customized philanthropic plans based on a broad range of assets.  We also provide advice of the best ways to give and to ensure your contributions make the difference you expect.

The Rockland Community Foundation offers a variety of funds that can be individualized to meet your needs.

A designated fund can provide ongoing support to a favorite agency or charitable cause. If an originally designated charity ceases to exist or no longer fulfills its mission, we honor donor intent by selecting alternative nonprofit agencies providing similar services.

Donor-advised funds offer the greatest flexibility and encourage donors to play an ongoing role by recommending grants to charitable projects or organizations.

Donors who wish to support specific program initiatives, causes or geographic areas within the county often elect to establish a field-of-interest fund. These funds are restricted to specified areas of interest, but allow for flexibility to respond to changing community needs.

An organization fund can allow a nonprofit organization to use the Community Foundation as its fiscal agent, protect its endowed monies to meet future needs, insure a relatively constant source of annual income, provide a vehicle for funds needed for particular projects, and fulfill its mission in perpetuity.

Donors can establish scholarship funds to benefit students at all educational levels. Some donors choose to act as advisors, while others appoint committees to select recipients.

Many communities supplement the educational resources provided by their public school districts with a fund. As a charitable entity, the school fund is a vehicle for accepting charitable contributions.

The board of directors allocates unrestricted funds for critical projects within our Leadership Areas that would leverage support from local and national sources.

The Rockland Community Foundation has established six initial funds in which the Foundation provides grants and contributions to nonprofits in Rockland County.  Donors can choose to give to these funds or create their owns funds under these fund categories.

Over the past three years under our Health and Human Services Fund, the Foundation has provided $500 contributions to 30 food pantries during the holidays and plans to do this once again this year to help alleviate the shortages of food and high demand especially during this period. This program was a matching partnership with Inserra Supermarkets Inc., which operates several ShopRite stores in Rockland County.

In 2009 under our Education Fund, the Rockland Community Foundation will be offering its first scholarship program. And, under our Arts Fund, the Foundation will provide a matching grant with the monies contributed to the Foundation by Rockland Country Day School from its fall festival.
