Spirit of Rockland Scholarship

Application Deadline is May 10th, 2010

The Chazen Spirit of Rockland Scholarship is granted in annual increments of $1,000.00 per year. Scholarships are renewable for up to four years for qualifying recipients enrolled without interruption in a college of their choice for a total grant not to exceed $4,000.00. Renewal of the scholarship grant is contingent on several criteria including, continuing enrollment, and meeting reporting requirements, proof of satisfactory achievement and continued financial need and the availability of funds. A complete renewal application describing how the scholarship benefited you and why it should be renewed must be submitted for each academic year for which scholarship funds are requested and must be returned by no later than August 1st along with proof of enrollment for that academic year. Awards are granted for a specific period of study and are not carried over if unused.

Scholarship recipients are expected to use their resources wisely and uphold a high standard of conduct and study and maintain a minimum 3.25 GPA. Each scholarship recipient must submit to the Rockland Community Foundation semi-annual reports, verified by an official transcript, of the courses taken and grades received in each academic period and also provide a semi-annual accounting of the scholarship funds at the end of each academic term, specifying the use of the funds received along with accompanying copies of bills for tuition, room and board, books and supplies, as appropriate.

If reporting requirements are not met, the recipient will be expected to return the grant award.

The Chazen Spirit of Rockland Scholarship award is an outright grant. Although recipients are under no obligation to make repayment, it is hoped that once graduated and engaged in a productive career they will help sustain the “Spirit” to give future students a similar financial opportunity.

The Chazen Spirit of Rockland Scholarship recognizes and supports Rockland County youth dedicated to pursuing higher education studies. Each year a scholarship will be awarded by the Rockland Community Foundation to a promising Rockland County high school senior, in need of financial aid, to assist with costs in attending a college of his or her choice.

To be considered for The Chazen Spirit of Rockland Scholarship, applicants must be residents of Rockland County and attend a public, private or parochial school within Rockland County. Well rounded high school seniors that demonstrate a significant commitment of volunteer service to our community are encouraged to apply.
